Learning together

During the past few weeks we have been thrown into an intensive course designed to prepare us to stand firm in Christ amidst the challenges we may face on the field. Sometimes it seems like a firehose of information! The staff have so much experience on the field and sometimes it seems an impossible task to transfer all that information in just four weeks time. 


A younger couple from Brazil spoke this morning about some of the challenges they faced on the field. The sentence that has stuck with me from this discussion is "an untrained soldier is an easy target". We are so grateful for the staffers and their desire to prepare us for the challenges ahead. They have a contagious love and trust of God.


On another note, we have been making wonderful friends. It is incredible to be with so many young couples who have a similar deep desire to bring the gospel to the lost and be about God's business. 


But through all of this, please pray with with us. Our desire is, that in all that we do in life, we would be continually drawn to Christ. Having a deeper love and desire for Him is the highest calling for our lives.

Navigating the Shortcuts

Getting to work has been an adventure of its own. Sometimes I drive, but lately I have been walking or riding my bicycle. It is a great  way to go over all the Swahili greetings (there are many) and get some fresh air (or be thoroughly dusted by a large passing vehicle). Many people walk great distances as few own cars and the public transportation does not go everywhere.  Below I have taken a video of my bicycle ride to work. I hope you enjoy! Parents Moving to Tanzania in 10 Days!

A few weeks ago we found out that the Christian school which Silas and Jason are attending was in need of a principle. Carmen's parents are both teachers and having cross culture experience we mentioned in passing that they should come... We could never have imagined, but they will be coming to Arusha in 10 days! They will be staying in a house that is less than a ten minute walk down the road. At first, this sounded too good to be true, but it is quickly becoming a reality. Manna from Heaven

Have you ever wondered what manna tasted like during the days of Moses? Well, wonder no more. I have solved the mystery! And with a few potatoes and minimal knifing skills you can replicate this ancient delicacy. First you need to chop them up Get rid of the bad spots (for looks so the wife will eat them) Oh, this potato chopper can be useful. All you need to do to get one is marry off your sister so that you can have a brother in law who appreciates fries as much as you do. Rinse and dry them I recommend putting the audience to work drying them But you know, the secret isn't in the potato, its in the oil.
