Training 
Jacob has been working through flight and maintenance standardization with JAARS. They have covered runway surveying, turbine engine maintenance, and much more. He has finished his initial flying in the Helio Courier and has started his training in the Cessna 206 which is the aircraft type he will fly in Tanzania. 

Clinic
Carmen has been enjoying the weekly mornings with the other wives as they spend time talking, praying, and listening to other veteran mission wives share their story. They have shared on valuable topics related to managing a family on the mission field. She is also enjoying one morning a week at the JAARS health clinic doing charts and other odds and ends to ease the load of the other health care workers.

Pray for Steve…
Amidst all the beauty of spring, we have run into some unexpected bumps. The couple we will be replacing in Tanzania was back in the States for a short furlough. However, instead of returning to Tanzania as scheduled, Steve experienced unexpected heart attack symptoms which led to the discovery of a blocked artery. Following stent surgery, his heart abruptly stopped for 30 seconds. Though placement of the stent and then a pacemaker was successful, they are now unclear as to whether he will be able to continue flying. They expect it should take at least six months or more to sort out these health issues.




More Uncertainty
As such, the Tanzania flight program will be temporarily down. It is possible that our departure in early August will be delayed. We do not yet know all the changes this will bring for everyone involved. Please pray for wisdom, patience, and direction.

Navigating the Shortcuts

Getting to work has been an adventure of its own. Sometimes I drive, but lately I have been walking or riding my bicycle. It is a great  way to go over all the Swahili greetings (there are many) and get some fresh air (or be thoroughly dusted by a large passing vehicle). Many people walk great distances as few own cars and the public transportation does not go everywhere.  Below I have taken a video of my bicycle ride to work. I hope you enjoy! Parents Moving to Tanzania in 10 Days!

A few weeks ago we found out that the Christian school which Silas and Jason are attending was in need of a principle. Carmen's parents are both teachers and having cross culture experience we mentioned in passing that they should come... We could never have imagined, but they will be coming to Arusha in 10 days! They will be staying in a house that is less than a ten minute walk down the road. At first, this sounded too good to be true, but it is quickly becoming a reality. Manna from Heaven

Have you ever wondered what manna tasted like during the days of Moses? Well, wonder no more. I have solved the mystery! And with a few potatoes and minimal knifing skills you can replicate this ancient delicacy. First you need to chop them up Get rid of the bad spots (for looks so the wife will eat them) Oh, this potato chopper can be useful. All you need to do to get one is marry off your sister so that you can have a brother in law who appreciates fries as much as you do. Rinse and dry them I recommend putting the audience to work drying them But you know, the secret isn't in the potato, its in the oil.
