Baby Gender Announcement! 


You will probably already have guessed the gender of the twins from the picture. Jacob believes that the addition of two girls to the family will help calm and civilize our boys, but Carmen remains skeptical. If they are anything like Carmen was growing up, she will be right.  


Four Under Four Survival Plan
Due to our current plan of leaving Idaho for a visit to Pennsylvania and traveling on to Tanzania within a month after the twins due date, we asked a friend of ours to accompany us to Tanzania. She agreed to come and be a full-time live-in nanny. Having someone familiar to the boys to tra h vel with and then spend the first few months with us will help ease the major transitions for the boys. It gives us much peace of mind knowing the children will be well cared for while we go through initial culture and language learning. 

Meet the New Member of our Team
Dinah sacrificed her plans of attending Bible school this spring semester in order to come with us. She is a longtime family friend who is an adventuresome, resilient, self-sacrificing young Christian woman with a desire to serve God. We are so grateful for her willingness to serve with us. She will be a tremendous blessing to us, and we want to bless her by helping her raise the $3000 needed to cover her expenses.

A year ago we stepped out in faith and left Idaho for Michigan. We had no idea what was next for us. Since then we have moved to three different states and had many surprises along the way. From being accepted with JAARS, being assigned to Tanzania, working through JAARS flight standardization, and getting the biggest surprise of our lives, the twins, God has given us His blessing in each step. This gives us confidence for the future. We know that Jesus’ promise holds true:
 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Matthew 6:33.

Navigating the Shortcuts

Getting to work has been an adventure of its own. Sometimes I drive, but lately I have been walking or riding my bicycle. It is a great  way to go over all the Swahili greetings (there are many) and get some fresh air (or be thoroughly dusted by a large passing vehicle). Many people walk great distances as few own cars and the public transportation does not go everywhere.  Below I have taken a video of my bicycle ride to work. I hope you enjoy! Parents Moving to Tanzania in 10 Days!

A few weeks ago we found out that the Christian school which Silas and Jason are attending was in need of a principle. Carmen's parents are both teachers and having cross culture experience we mentioned in passing that they should come... We could never have imagined, but they will be coming to Arusha in 10 days! They will be staying in a house that is less than a ten minute walk down the road. At first, this sounded too good to be true, but it is quickly becoming a reality. We will actually have family in Tanzania! This has been a very big step of faith for them and we would encourage you to help them out if you can. Haydom

Tuesday last week I flew out with another MAF pilot, Kirstein, to Haydom. Our schedule was full with flights out to even more remote villages, and we would not return back to Arusha until Friday. On one of the afternoons we needed to haul to the maximum capacity of the aircraft, and so I was left on the ground.  As I waited to catch a few pictures of Kirstein taking off to the villages, these two girls kept begging me to take a picture of them so they could see themselves. They were quite pleased, and a little shy, when I showed them my camera screen. After he was off, I began my hike to the large hill beside the town of Haydom. Having grown up in the mountains of Idaho, I miss the tranquility and peace of being in the wild. Being away from busy city life gives me time to think and process.
