One Average Day

Since we started learning Swahili on Monday, it seems the new norm for the time being is sore brains and dreams filled with Swahili. On top of that, the commute has been more than interesting. Since we got here we have run across two cars in the ditch (their ditches can be very deep), one motorcycle accident, one bajaj accident, and one person run over... whew. Driving around here takes 100% of your energy. Needless to say, it is overall safe if you keep your wits about you :) At least it is much less disturbing than seeing countless white crosses all day across the state of Montana.

Anyway, we just finalised an apartment which is within walking distance of the SIL office and language learning. And we plan on moving tomorrow...which means I better be going to bed. Thank you all for your support!

Have you ever wondered what manna tasted like during the days of Moses? Well, wonder no more. I have solved the mystery! And with a few potatoes and minimal knifing skills you can replicate this ancient delicacy. First you need to chop them up Get rid of the bad spots (for looks so the wife will eat them) Oh, this potato chopper can be useful. All you need to do to get one is marry off your sister so that you can have a brother in law who appreciates fries as much as you do. Rinse and dry them I recommend putting the audience to work drying them But you know, the secret isn't in the potato, its in the oil. Navigating the Shortcuts

Getting to work has been an adventure of its own. Sometimes I drive, but lately I have been walking or riding my bicycle. It is a great  way to go over all the Swahili greetings (there are many) and get some fresh air (or be thoroughly dusted by a large passing vehicle). Many people walk great distances as few own cars and the public transportation does not go everywhere.  Below I have taken a video of my bicycle ride to work. I hope you enjoy! A Trip to "Hobby Lobby"

I needed to pick up a few items for my sewing projects, however, I was not having any success finding what I needed. After asking around I was told of a market that would likely have what I needed. Kariakoo. Not knowing much about this newfound market other than that it is big and in the general direction of downtown, I debated how to go about a trip to "Hobby Lobby". Feeling as if going solo on this expedition was not the best idea, I had been contemplating on who would come with me. It so happened that the day before I was to go I met a lady at a used clothing market while I was looking for the next size for the girls. She helped me find a few items that were tucked away in an obscure corner of the market, walked me through the back neighbourhood, and helped me to the bus stop before going home.
